== Structure ==
==Contents and Navigation==
The canonical structure of the ePOM appears in the left-hand navigation. Each "chapter" is a wiki category, which can contain sub-categories and pages. You can always use the links in the left column to navigate the site. However, there are no constraints ''requiring'' documents to be placed in this hierarchy, and some may fall entirely outside of it. Oftentimes, [[Special:Search|searching]] will be the quickest route to the content you seek.
The sidebar to the left lists categories, or chapters, linking to information about our company, region, medical practices and clinical resources. The links may be the best route to what you're looking for, but [[Special:Search|searching]] is also effective. You may also wish to see the list of [[Special:AllPages|all pages]].

=== Redlinks ===
Because the contents of the ePOM are in flux, we have only fleshed-out a few sections. When no page or category has been built yet, its link appears red (in the wiki world, these are known as "redlinks"). Clicking on one of those links will prompt you to create the page yourself. You can back-up if you're not ready to do so.

=== Editing ===
Wiki navigation is somewhat primitive. If you find yourself at a dead end or in a standalone pdf document, you may not see the main sidebar menu of the wiki. Use your ''browser's'' back button to return to the previous page or until you find yourself in familiar territory.
The ePOM uses a lightweight graphical editor to simplify the process of editing pages, but the standard wiki markup you may be familiar with from other wikis is still valid. As is a lot of simple html, if you're familiar with basic markup.

== Example Content ==
==Editing and Contributing==
In addition to the ePOM structure, some data has been entered, to provide a nucleus for discussion.
This guide is authored by a team of YKHC senior medical staff. Questions, comments and requests can be directed to the Chief of Staff or Medical Director. YKHC staff can find a list of which editors are responsible for updating which sections [[http://ykhcintranet.ykhc.org/apps/libraryapp/index.cfm?fuseaction=Document.ShowDocumentDetail&id=2102 here]]. Staff can also find an introductory guide to the YK Wiki [[http://ykhcintranet.ykhc.org/apps/libraryapp/index.cfm?fuseaction=Document.ShowDocumentDetail&id=2101 here]].
===Redlinks===
Editors can create links before a page is made. These show up in red (in the wiki world, these are known as "redlinks"). Clicking on one of those links will take you to an empty page. If you are logged in as an editor, you can create the page yourself. You can use your browser's backbutton to escape if you're not ready yet.

=== Long Pages vs. Categories ===
--
YKHC should decide how "atomic" it wants its content to be. Is it better to group single-pages together within a category, or to group all entries into one long page? Examples:
* [[:Category:Ancillary_Services|Ancillary Services]] is a single, long document
* [[:Category: Bush Medicine|Bush Medicine]] is a category, with separate pages for each topic.
Each approach has its advantages.

Contents and Navigation

The sidebar to the left lists categories, or chapters, linking to information about our company, region, medical practices and clinical resources. The links may be the best route to what you're looking for, but searching is also effective. You may also wish to see the list of all pages.

Wiki navigation is somewhat primitive. If you find yourself at a dead end or in a standalone pdf document, you may not see the main sidebar menu of the wiki. Use your browser's back button to return to the previous page or until you find yourself in familiar territory.

Editing and Contributing

This guide is authored by a team of YKHC senior medical staff. Questions, comments and requests can be directed to the Chief of Staff or Medical Director. YKHC staff can find a list of which editors are responsible for updating which sections [here]. Staff can also find an introductory guide to the YK Wiki [here].

Redlinks

Editors can create links before a page is made. These show up in red (in the wiki world, these are known as "redlinks"). Clicking on one of those links will take you to an empty page. If you are logged in as an editor, you can create the page yourself. You can use your browser's backbutton to escape if you're not ready yet.

Editing

The Guide to YKHC Medical Practices uses a lightweight graphical editor to simplify the process of editing pages, but the standard wiki markup you may be familiar with from other wikis is still valid. You may find this cheatsheet helpful.

Pages with Structure

When a page has more than three headings in it, the wiki automatically generates a table of contents. Clicking a TOC item takes you to that heading on the page. You can show or hide the TOC.
