Vasectomy is available at YKHC.

Vasectomy is a permanent and irreversible sterilization option for males. The procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes. It is performed with local anesthesia and sedation in the operating room (OR).

For a patient expressing interest in this procedure, the referring clinician can provide general information in clinic. See here for more information about the procedure.

At time of referral, the patient and referring clinician will complete the Health and Human Services Consent for Sterilization form accessible here.

The referring clinician orders “Refer to Surgery-Vasectomy.”

Patient will receive phone call from the surgeon to discuss procedural consent, reiterate details of procedure, and affirm patient’s desire for permanent sterilization.

The patient will later receive phone call from case manager to schedule procedure.

On day of procedure, the patient presents to Surgery Department (across from cafeteria).

Three months after vasectomy, patient presents to YKHC lab for post-vasectomy semen analysis. The surgeon will follow up results with the patient.

If negative, the patient is cleared to rely upon vasectomy for contraception.

In the future, this procedure might be offered in clinic, but for now is only available in OR.
