First Year Expectations

Clinic

60 minute appointments with overbooks as able. Many residents are able to complete the evaluation and be involved with procedures on patients they are seeing during this time including giving immunizations, placing PIVs, casting, urinary caths, and many more.

All patients must be staffed before leaving the hospital

The high school based clinic is currently up and running. You will be scheduled every other Wednesday with a provider to perform school physicals and acute sick visits at Bethel Regional High School.

Interdisciplinary Rounds are scheduled at 8:00 am on Thursday mornings in the Hospital Main Conference Room. Please be on the look out for interesting patients seen at YK to present or come just to listen to other providers present their interesting cases.

Medevac

Providers will help assist getting 1-2 medevacs during your inpatient or ER shifts as time allows. If you desire to go on more medevacs, please arrange with the medevac team during off hours.

Make sure to have the Lifemed Observer Form completed and a copy with you at all times you desire to go on a medevac

Remember that when you go, you are observing, not providing or suggesting medical care.

Procedures

Many opportunities are available during your time in Bethel to perform procedures.

If you wish to perform procedures during your clinic hours that are not on patients you are scheduled to see, discuss with your precepting provider to make arrangements as able.

In the past, residents have arranged time in the mornings prior to clinic to present to the OR for intubation and IV practice on patients who are having dental rehab. Please call the OR, at 543-6177, the day before to arrange with nursing staff as desired.
